I'm Zach Allred, a composer based in Cedar City, Utah, with experience in audio engineering, recording, and engraving.

I started as an electronic artist. I started learning how to use FL Studio because one of my friends was using it and wanted to work on projects with me. I worked on improving my sound design and learned how to craft a melody. I always loved making electronic music and the sound design was my favorite part of the process. During my time at Southern Utah University, I took a class where we performed Avant Garde styles of music, including some of the works of John Cage, Mark Applebaum, and my personal favorite, Steve Reich. There I learned to love the minimalist style of music, which I started applying to my electronic music.
Knowing that not everyone loves that style of music, I started devoting time and energy into learning more complex music theory and compositional styles to create music that anyone could enjoy. I took private lessons from the professors at Southern Utah University to learn how to craft more intricate countermelodies and more complete harmonies to captivate and capture an audience's attention. There I improved my ability to add variation to my music, so that I could create any type of music that someone would like to listen to. I improved my orchestration abilities and decided to devote myself to instrumental composition.
Eventually I recognized that the two worlds I had composed in and learned so much from didn't have to be separate. I could implement interesting sound design and minimalistic techniques into my instrumental compositions, which was a world that I feel has been hitherto unexplored by the majority of people. Therefore, I am currently exploring the possibility of use of synthesized sound and repetition in my works, aiming to bridge the gap between my electronic roots and acoustic compositions.
I focus my energy on writing for chamber groups, but have composed for many different ensembles, ranging from classical trumpet solos to quartets for trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, and piano. Whatever you're looking for in a composition, I can do it for you.

This was my first composition for Symphony Orchestra. Venture Undertaken received honorable mention in the Hal Campbell Young Composer's competition, and was premeiered as the flagship piece for Southern Utah University's "Emerging Artists" concert, which I was priveledged enough to be selected as the conductor for.
